February 17, 2018
I have been working with indie artists within the music ecosystem for a while now. I can say that most of the artists that I work with are from the United States Of America. I often ask a simple question to many of the artists that approach me "what do they believe success is when it comes to building their music career? The answer I always get is that they want to be an a star, go on a world tours, and have millions of fans. If I combine all of these things basically what their answers equate to is fame equals success. After I get a good laugh in, I'll then begin to bring them back down to reality and begin to share some of the hard truths that comes along with achieving success for their music career.
If you were to ask me what I equate as success for an indie artist is to be a working artist much more than a famous artist. There's so much that goes into building a successful music career. It's important for indie artists to understand the ecosystem. When I say the word "ecosystem" I basically mean money and generating revenue. When it comes to money being a global artist to me is the most important thing. Most of you know by know that my path for an artist to be successful is for them to build and embrace a "core" audience, but more importantly that "core audience should span globally for ultimate success.
If you are an indie artist, songwriter and/or producer looking to expand globally, you must realize that your approach to moving within the global ecosystem must be made a certain way in order to get the results that you're seeking. I have decided to share with you 3 essential tips that can be used to successfully expand your career globally. The first tip that you should consider when expanding globally is to: Define Your Genre & Be Aware Of The Content Of Your Music. When you want to do global business regardless of the industry being aware of the culture is essential. The second tip that you should consider when expanding globally is to do collaborations with artists in the country you want to build a supporter base in. Collaborations are extremely important in helping an artist build their international profile. The third and final tip to consider when looking to expand globally within the ecosystem is to gotoglobal music industry events. Global music events are important because relationships are the life-blood of success in the global music industry.
The global music ecosystem for an indie artist gives an artist endless opportunities to build their career without having to feel like they need to be a major label artist and have a major label budget. Once I was exposed to the global music ecosystem I knew that by learning and building within the ecosystem, I could once again be a great asset to help indie artists build their careers.
